Nuff Sedd Lead Singer to Perform in Lahaina

Singer-songwriter Josh Kahula will perform at Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s free Hawaiian Music Series concert on Thursday, Oct. 29, in front of the Baldwin Home Museum. Kahula, lead singer of Nuff Sedd, one of Maui’s most popular bands, is a guitarist and accomplished musician who composed and arranged most of the songs for the band’s recordings. The group’s cutting-edge sound combines music influences from ska and reggae to funk and R&B, and incorporates classic rock, alternative and pop sounds. Nuff Sedd’s debut album received the 2005 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award for “Reggae Album of the Year” and won several Hawai‘i Music Awards, including “Group of the Year” and “Song of the Year” for the hit single, Cherry Bomb. The Maui Monster Massive

The island’s biggest costume party and dance music event, will return for it’s fourth year on Friday, Oct. 30, beginning at 9 p.m. at Diamonds Ice Bar & Grill in the Azeka Shopping Center in Kīhei. Maui DJs, performers and producers have collaborated to put on a spectacle of a show. This year, special guest DJs will be flown in from all over the state and beyond (see story for names). The event will also include gogo­ dancers, a large soundstage, a laser light show, a free photo booth, dancing all night long, and last but not least, the costumed crowds. Costumes are highly encouraged. Drink specials all night long, free prizes and giveaways from local sponsors, as well as media outlets capturing the night’s celebration. Doors open at 8 p.m. to the 21-and-over crowd. No cover or pre­-sales are required this year; instead, event promoters encourage attendees to make donations to local charities. Ample parking will be available.
5th Friday Returns to Lāna‘i for October Town Party
Lanai · Lanai Town · 5–8 p.m.
The 5th Friday Lāna‘i Package includes a round-trip ferry ride between Lahaina Harbor and Manele Harbor, round-trip ground transportation between Manele Harbor and Lāna‘i City, and an event passport. Attendees can visit participating businesses and collect passport stamps to earn entry into a free prize drawing. Details can be found at www.fifthfridaylanai.com. Attendees can choose to depart from Lahaina on the Expeditions ferry at 9:15 a.m., 12:45 p.m. or 3:15 p.m.; however, departure from Manele Harbor is limited to 9:30 p.m. only. The cost for the package is $60 per adult and $50 per child; book online. A discounted price is also available for kama‘āina who already have a ticket booklet from Expeditions. All businesses will be open throughout the event. There will be food booths and restaurants, and several music and entertainment venues. Additionally, attendees will be able to tour and watch movies at the newly renovated Lāna‘i Theater as well as visit the Lāna‘i Culture and Heritage Center. Hard Rock to Host PINKTOBER Fundraisers
Lahaina · Hard Rock Cafe · 10 p.m.
The Hard RockCafe Maui will host eight nights of live music fundraisers for the Pacific Cancer Foundation beginning Oct. 11. A percentage of the proceeds from the Annual Halloween Dance Party on Halloween night will also go to the foundation. For the past 16 years, the Hard Rock PINKTOBER campaign has raised millions of dollars globally for breast cancer awareness and research.
All events start at 10 p.m. and are 21-and-over events unless otherwise noted.

Halloween: Saturday, Oct. 31

Back for the fifth consecutive year, “Halloween in Lahaina” returns to world famous Front Street on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015. Last year, the same event drew a crowd estimated at 28,000 people, and this year, police are expecting up to 2,000 more people. 32nd Annual Ghoulish Gala Karaoke Costume Contest at The Wharf

Following Lahaina’s keiki Halloween costume parade down Front Street Saturday, Oct. 31, The Wharf will hold its 32nd Annual Ghoulish Gala Karaoke Costume Contest. Registration begins at 5 p.m. and contest starts at 7 p.m. Admission and registration are free. Following the Ghoulish Gala, entertainment continues at The Wharf restaurants, which will also offer Halloween specials (see article for “Restaurant Specials”). Pacific Whale Foundation Offers Halloween Lahaina-Mā‘alaea Cruises
Wailuku · Mā’alaea HarborPacific Whale Foundation’s Eco Adventures is offering sunset cruises from Mā’alaea Harbor to the Lahaina Halloween festivities on Saturday, Oct. 31. “The 25th anniversary celebration of “Hula O Nā Keiki”, Maui’s only children’s hula competition, is set to take place November 13-15, 2015 at the Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel in West Maui. The competition commemorates the art of hula, one of Hawai‘i’s richest traditions, and brings the dance to light through the movement of keiki trained in both modern and ancient forms. Participants ranging in age from five to 17 will compete in their respective categories for both solo and pair titles. There’s also an opportunity to win part of the $13,000 in cash and prizes awarded each year.The competition includes a judge’s interview as well as hula performances in both kahiko (ancient) and ‘auana (modern) dance categories. Maui Chamber Orchestra to Present October Concert

“The Maui Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Robert E. Wills, will present a challenging and exciting concert on Oct. 17 and 18 at ʻĪao Theater in Wailuku. The program will begin with Franz Josef Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto. The concerto will feature Pam Humphrey as the soloist. The first half of the program will close with a reprise from the 2015 season of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto. The concerto will feature three Maui soloists—Rona Londrigan, violin; Jazzlyn Woods, oboe; and Peggy Schecter, flute. Lynn Erickson on trumpet will perform the most well-known part of the concerto. UB40 Reunited

“UB40 is reuniting and they are coming to Maui! Tickets go on sale at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center Box Office Saturday, Oct. 24, scheduled at The MACC’s A&B Amphitheater on Saturday, Jan. 30. UB40 helped define reggae music for a generation, producing multiple Top 10, No. 1, gold and platinum albums; earning multiple Grammy nominations; and creating hits worldwide including Red Red Wine, I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You, I Got You Babe and Here I Am (Come and Take Me). The band has sold more than 70 million units worldwide.
