A High Wind Advisory is posted for Windward Moloka’i, Windward and West Maui including the Central Valley, Haleakalā and most of Lāna’i. Southwest winds from 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. The strongest winds are likely to occur along north and east sections where winds accelerate downslope from higher terrain. Gust winds may occur with passing showers. Winds this strong can bring down branches and weak trees, cause damage to weak roofs, power outages and make driving difficult.
A Small Craft Advisory has been issued for all Maui County waters from noon today through 6:00 a.m. Wednesday for winds of 25 knots or more and rough seas from 9 to 16 feet.
A Gale Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for all offshore waters.
A High Surf Advisory is posted for north-facing shores of Maui and Moloka’i through 6:00 a.m. Wednesday for 10 to 15 foot faces. Expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Looking Ahead
Light winds will turn to the southwest Monday as a front approaches from the northwest. The front is expected to pass over the islands Tuesday through Wednesday with an increase in winds. Winds will remain out of the west to northwest through the end of the week, with another front expected to pass over the islands Friday and Friday night. The frontal passage Tuesday through Wednesday night will likely spread more widespread rain to the islands than the Friday system, as the system slows over Maui county. While moderate rainfall totals are currently expected, some localized heavier rainfall is possible.
