OHA: Disproportionate Spike in COVID-19 Cases in Native Hawaiian Communities

While the entire State is experiencing a surge in positive test results, there has been a disproportionate spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in Native Hawaiian communities, according to an assessment of Health Department data by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. This comes after months of maintaining relatively low numbers.

OHA Board Chair: Water Use Permit Application on Molokaʻi Would Enable 171 New Homestead Service Connections

BLNR Passes Highly Contested Beach Nourishment Project

The state BLNR heard from the Office of Conservation and Coastal Lands (OCCL) on Item K-2, a programmatic statewide small-scale beach restoration (SSBR) permitting program that would reauthorize and expand the existing beach nourishment program OCCL to streamline activities. The motion is highly contested by many in the Maui community.

Office of Hawaiian Affairs Awards $395,000 in Additional Grants

Due to a budget reallocation approved by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs’ Board of Trustees, an additional $394,588 in grants was awarded to projects designed to strengthen Native Hawaiians’ connections to family, culture and land. This includes $23,507 more in funding for Hana Arts.

OHA Awards $1.77 Million in Response Grants to Help in Pandemic Recovery

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs awarded a total of $1.77 million in grant awards to 15 nonprofit organizations – on five islands – through its COVID-19 Impact and Response Grants.
