The inaugural season will culminate in the state championship, scheduled for May 1-2 at Hoʻokipa Beach Park on Maui’s north shore. A total of 174 student-athletes will qualify for the championship meet, representing the top surfers from across the islands.

Zolten Poulsen paced Maui Prep to their third straight boy’s win, while Maui Christian won the girl’s title behind Lila Sloan at the third Maui Interscholastic League surf contest, Saturday at Kokī Beach in Hāna.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound Kamehameha Schools Maui senior offensive lineman has grown up fast and hopes to follow in the footsteps of his older siblings, both standout collegiate athletes.

Jona Dudoit’s win in the 126-pound final was the first state title for the Moloka‘i boys team since 2005. From the MIL, Lahainaluna senior Siana Boaz-Vasquez also won the girls 140-pound crown and Baldwin senior Niko Takitani won the boys 165-pound title.

Maui Prep won the boys’ crown, while their West Maui rival, Lahainaluna, took the girls’ division at the first Maui Interscholastic League surf contest of the season, Saturday at D.T. Fleming Beach Park.

After two decades and 10 college football jobs, Kauha’aha’a has found a home at Brigham Young University. He was promoted to outside linebackers coach earlier this month after being a senior analyst for the Cougars for the last two seasons. 

Storer earned Kamehameha Maui its first title in swimming. Sacha Salem of Maui Prep was the only other MIL swimmer to win a state title in the championship finals.

Introduced by Council Vice-Chair Yuki Lei Sugimura, the resolution recognizes the second consecutive state title in football for Kamehameha Schools Maui.  

Both the Maui Prep boys and girls team won their 4×100-yard freestyle relays to come from one point behind to capture their respective Maui Interscholastic League swimming championship.

Bal grew up as the granddaughter of a longtime Maui High coach and the daughter of a standout Maui High player, and now she and the 12-0 Sabers are on the verge of their second-straight MIL title.

With the title, the Aloha Volleyball Association’s Under-14 boys team qualifies for a spot in the AAU national tournament in July in Florida.

With high school surfing becoming an official state sport in Hawaiʻi this spring, coaches are required to take safety clinics that include a long swim, CPR and first aid.

Now, Na Ali’i are headed back to the Hele/HHSAA boys Division I state tournament as MIL champions for first time since their state title run four years ago.

Despite playing without the only returning starter from last season’s state championship, the Spartans swept Hāna and improved to 19-2 overall and 9-0 in MIL Division II play.

The Bears have ridden that family atmosphere to a 7-0 start in the Maui Interscholastic League Division I regular season and are on the brink of clinching their sixth berth in the last seven state tournaments.

The Lady Lunas won an MIL all-sports record 164 league games in a row and secured 19 consecutive titles from 2005 to 2024. But last season, Maui High won the title, and with both teams undefeated so far, their first showdown of the season comes with high stakes.

Oregon State University started the tournament, involving four teams, in 2016 and it has been played every year since with the exception of 2020 when it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kamehameha Maui had 11 senior starters play their final high school game on Friday, including the school’s all-time leading rusher Zedekaiah Campbell, college-football-bound offensive lineman Pa’u Spencer, and defensive leader Kolt Kaho’ohanohano.

Together, one of the most prolific running back tandems in the state led the Warriors to a 37-18 win over sister school Kamehameha Hawai’i in a semifinal of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Division II tournament on Saturday night.
