Hawaiian Electric urges residents to prepare as above-average hurricane season approaches

With forecasters projecting a busier-than-normal Central Pacific hurricane season, Hawaiian Electric is calling on customers across the islands to build emergency plans before the first storm threatens.

None, however, are expected at this time to directly move into or over the Hawaiian Islands. But there is some uncertainty in the forecast early next week because of the possibility of a tropical disturbance forming and passing just south of the state that could bring heavier showers depending on how close it gets.
