Motorists who utilize the Honoapiilani Highway for their commute have likely noticed roadwork on the mauka side of the highway, in the area between Papalaua Wayside Park and Ukumehame Beach Park.

The training includes basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. The upcoming Lahaina session will be held at the Princess Nahienaena Elementary School in March.

Several mariners are seeking help to address issues with the depth of the channel at Lahaina Harbor, attributing the problem to the surge from the March 11, 2011 tsunami and subsequent swells.

The force of the waves ripped trees and vegetation from the ground, flooded low lying areas, and burried stretches of fence beneath piles of dirt, rocks and branches.

Maui Firefighters were called to assist in returning a stranded turtle to sea after it had washed ashore in powerful tsunami wave action in Kahului this morning.

Two separate wastewater overflows were discovered at 7:30 this morning in Paukukalo and Napili on Maui. The overflows occured during planned operational shutdowns of pump stations in preparation of the imminent tsunami impacts.

The tsunami warning event on Saturday resulted in sewage spills to the ocean at three locations. Saturday’s University of Hawai‘i-BYU men’s volleyball match that was supposed to be played on Maui on Saturday, has been rescheduled for Monday at the Stan Sheriff Center on Oahu.
