This is you Ka’apuni update for Saturday afternoon and evening, February 21st—the torch lit procession for unity in the Native Hawaiian Community is rounding out its first full day of walking. Due in part to lack of cell capabilities in the remote northern tip of the island, earlier reports were difficult to produce. The journey started at Mokuula in Lahaina and by 4 p.m. this afternoon, was passing through the village of Kahakuloa & was hosted by the Ho’opi’i ‘Ohana. Again the procession is expected to pass through Paukukalo sometime at around 7 or 8 p.m. and through the central Maui region into the night. By 5 p.m., the procession had yet to reach the Mendez Ranch. There were about 150 people at the opening protocol ceremony last night, and about a dozen marchers on the latest leg, with members of various moku or districts invited to join in as the group passes through. Also motorists are reminded to be mindful and exercise extra caution when passing by marchers for the safety of those on the road and on foot. For details on preparations and progress of the Ka’apuni procession, visit us again on this website as we bring you the latest.
