MAUI DUO WINS BAND CHAMP TITILE

Two Kamehameha Maui students are the winners of a statewide televised band competition. 17-year-old Dane Lum Ho and 18-year-old Kala’e Camarillo of Maui took home the Band Champ title after thousands of votes were cast following the broadcast finale Wednesday night on KHON. The two, known on stage as “Why Bother” win five thousand dollars, a recording contract and will be the opening act for an upcoming concert. The duo wins the title after placing first in the Maui competition at the MACC on March 7th.

MAUI MUSICIANS MAKE BAND CHAMP FINALS

Maui musicians Dane Lum Ho and Kala’e Camarillo will be featured tonight as a finalist in the state bandchamp competition. The two make up the band Why Bother and won the Maui competition at the MACC on March 7th. The show airs at 9 o’clock tonight on KHON2 following American Idol—and like the national competition, viewer votes will be tallied following the show to determine the winner. The grand prize includes the opportunity to cut a CD, be an opening act for a concert and win $5,000.
