MAUI FIRE DEPT. NAMES THYNE AS NEW ASSISTANT CHIEF
The County of Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety announced the promotion of David Thyne to Assistant Chief of Support Services. The position was last held by Alan Pascua, who retired in December. Thyne joined the department in 1987, was promoted to Captain in 2002, and Battalion Chief last year. He holds both associate and bachelor degrees in Fire Science.
“Chief Thyne’s assistance with day-to-day projects has been tremendous,” said Deputy Fire Chief Robert Shimada. “He’s been our ‘go-to’ guy, and has filled the huge void that was created with the retirement of Chief Pascua last year.”
Assistant Chief Thyne previously served in the Lahaina district and Training Bureau. He served as Captain of the Kihei Fire Station and was later transferred to the Paia Fire Station in 2005.
Thyne and his wife Catherine have three daughters: Jessica, 19, Andrea, 18, and Ciara, 14.
