The County of Maui Department of Parks & Recreation will soon be accepting applications for the Tri-Annual Permit Process for the Winter/Spring 2020 season for all leagues and recreational programs.

This process affects application requests for the majority of facility usage county-wide. Application requests impacted include those for athletic fields, multipurpose fields, ball-fields, courts, pools and gymnasiums.

The Department will accept application requests from 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, until 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2019 for the Winter/Spring 2020 season of Jan. 1 – April 15, 2020.

All those wishing to be considered for facility scheduling for the Winter/Spring 2020 season should apply. Any applications not received in person or via email by 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, will not be considered in the tri-annual process.

Applicants having missed the application window may submit standard permit applications on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning Dec. 16, 2019, space-permitting.

The Department would like to remind users of the anticipated paving project at the War Memorial Complex as it will have impacts on facility availability. It is also important to know that the new South Maui Gymnasium will not be scheduled in this Tri-Annual window. A notification will be put out to the community to announce the acceptance of permit applications for the new south Maui facility at the appropriate time.

Application request packets will be available at all Department permit offices and also on the County of Maui website at www.mauicounty.gov/parks. Application requests will be reviewed in the priority order outlined in the Department’s administrative rules (also available at www.mauicounty.gov/parks).

According to county officials the tri-annual application process involves three windows of time each year during which application requests may be submitted within the first two weeks of January, May and October. It is important to note that this process will not impact permit application requests for camping, community centers or annual special events.

If residents are unsure how this will affect their use of County facilities, please contact the Department of Parks and Recreation permit office at 270-7389 or email DPRPermits@mauicounty.gov. For general Parks information, visit www.mauicounty.gov/parks.
