PEDESTRIAN FATALLY INJURED IN KAHULUI ACCIDENT
A pedestrian suffered fatal injuries in an accident in Kahului Tuesday night. The accident was reported at 9:21 p.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2009 on Kaahumanu Avenue between Kane Street and Lono Avenue.

Authorities identified the pedestrian as 52-year-old Michael Owen, who died after being transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center. Owen was struck while crossing the street by a Dodge sedan driven by a 45-year-old Makawao man.
According to police reports, the sedan was traveling eastbound when the accident occurred and the driver was the lone occupant.
Authorities say Owen was outside of a marked crosswalk; the have also determined speed to be a factor in the accident. The fatality is the 14th traffic death in Maui County this year and the 3rd reported this month.
