UH Offers “New Frontiers: Unraveling Cancer in Hawai‘i” Informational Event

The University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center is offering  a free informational event featuring the latest news in cancer prevention and care on Tuesday, February 22 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at UH Maui College in the Pa’ina Leis Family Class Act Restaurant.

“New Frontiers: Unraveling Cancer in Hawai‘i” will feature a panel of the world’s leading experts in the role of genetics, nutrition and other factors in cancer prevention.  Participants will also learn about cutting-edge research and treatments. An interactive question and answer session with the panel will help unravel the mysteries of cancer and reveal clues to finding a cure.

The event is part of a Neighbor Island outreach series hosted by the UH Cancer Center, with support from the Friends of the UH Cancer Center.  Maui residents Earl Stoner, a board member of the Friends and Cordy MacLaughlin, of UH Maui College will co-host.

The University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center is one of 65 National Cancer Institute-designated centers in the U.S. Affiliated with the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, the Center’s mission is to eliminate cancer through research, education, and improved patient care.   In December 2010 the Center announced the receipt of a $547,500 anonymous planned gift for ongoing funding for early-stage projects in novel and promising areas of study.
