Several cultural programs and the Maui Arts & Cultural Center will be funded with HTA/CPEP grants.

By Sonia Isotov

The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA), in partnership with Hawaii’s four counties, announced the selection of more than 120 events and projects to receive support through the HTA’s County Product Enrichment Program (CPEP).

A total of 29 community festivals, events and projects were awarded funded in Maui County alone and will help to provide a statewide, year-round calendar of experiences for visitors and residents.

These private-public partnerships celebrate Hawai‘i’s diversity, featuring multi-ethnic culture, foods and agricultural activities, natural attractions, health and wellness programs, and science and technology assets, while also yielding economic and social benefits.

CPEP was created in 2002 as a partnership between the HTA and the counties of Hawai‘i. Through the program, the counties receive HTA funding for community-based activities, and provide administrative support and technical assistance to the community and industry partners.

Through the CPEP partnership, the Maui County Office of Economic Development manages the CPEP on Maui by reviewing and evaluating proposals, contracting with individual entities, and monitoring the projects in-county. This approach allows for more local control, direction and better oversight and support of awardees. The following organizations, programs and events were funded in Maui County:

Arts Education for Children Group

Maui Invitation Music Festival and the Aloha Peace Festival
