The state Department of Transportation will work on three Maui projects this week that will result in lane closures.  The projects include culvert replacement at the Wailuku end of the Honoapiilani Highway, ongoing water and sewer-line work at the Maalaea Boat Harbor Road entrance, and road pavement work on Waiehu Beach Road.

Honoapiilani Hwy Culvert Replacement

A four day culvert replacement project begins at the Wailuku end of the Honoapiilani Highway today (Tuesday, May 31, 2011). The project extends from Kuikahi Road to Kehalani Parkway in Wailuku. Work will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and includes drainage culvert removal, and installation of new drainage culverts and catch basins.  Motorists are asked to follow signage and detours in the work area.

Motorists traveling in the south-bound (Lahaina-bound) direction, will follow the same detour in the opposite direction.

Crews from the state Department of Transportation will continue work this week on a six-month project to construct waterlines, sewerlines, and waste water treatment facilities in Maalaea.  During the project, there is a continuous 24-hour per day closure of the Maalaea Boat Harbor Road entrance, located on the Lahaina side of Buzz’s Wharf Restaurant, along the Honoapiilani Highway (Route 30).

The closure started on May 2, 2011, and continues through October.

There are three other access points to the harbor that can be used as alternate routes.  Directional signs on the Honoapiilani Highway have been adjusted to notify motorists of the closure and alternate routes.

Waiehu Beach Road Pavement Work

Construction crews will be conducting road pavement work on Waiehu Beach Road in Wailuku this week.  The work will result in intermittent alternating single lane closures on Waiehu Beach Road in both directions, from Kahekili Highway to Kahului Beach Road.  The work is scheduled to run from Tuesday, May 31, through Friday, June 3, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. daily.
