Wind gusts up to 40 mph are expected at the summit of Haleakala as high pressure northeast of the state produces strong easterly winds.  Th National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Wind Advisory for the Maui summit until 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2011.

Forecasters from the NWS say winds will be in the 25 to 30 mph range with higher gusts.

As a precaution, loose object that may become airborne should be secured or moved indoors.  Winds this strong can also make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.  Motorists are advised to use extra caution.
