Maui’s Kula State Forest to Reopen
By Wendy Osher
After a nearly seven month closure, the Kula State Forest reserve is expected to reopen to the public on Friday, July 15, 2011.
The area was initially closed on January 11, due to hazardous conditions caused by a series of storms.
Reopening of the park was postponed to allow completion of work and to make the area safe for public access.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) continues tree removal and chipping operations the park roadway.
The Division of Forestry and Wildlife expects to open the Forest for public use once this activity is completed and the road is made safe for vehicle traffic.
