Jazz and Blues Concert Tonight at I’ao Theatre
By Kristin Hashimoto
Tonight, how about a little jazz and blues? Weekend fun can be had in Wailuku at the historic I’ao theatre from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The charming theatre with its nice acoustic sound will feature: High Seas Dixieland Band, Moonglow All Stars Swing Band, Mana’o Radio Orchestra, and the Vince Esquire Band.
Imagine brass, guitar, bass, and beats that get the toes tapping and cause faces to split in grins and possibly open-mouthed laughter. The High Seas Dixieland Band will take you to the cobblestone streets of New Orleans, as they offer tunes that have the listener forgetting that they aren’t on Bourbon Street.
Lisa Owen, tuba player, community band director, and band-leader of Dixieland, will also direct the Moonglow All Stars Swing Band. Swing music from the 40’s and 50’s will mingle with rock, pop and Latin tunes. Expect that big band sound with a full saxophone section, inclusive of two alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones. Ellen Bellerose will add her vocal skills to the trumpets, trombone, piano, bass, guitar and drums of Moonglow All Stars Band.
Mana’o Radio Orchestra includes Vince Esquire, Shawn Michael and Josh Greenbaum from the Vince Esquire Band. This diverse orchestra oozes with slick tunings and original material. Finally, Esquire’s band kills it when they play any venue. Esquire has opened for Willie Nelson, The Los Lonely Boys, The Allman Brothers, and more. Come out tonight and join the fun. Donations are requested.
