Maui Police Investigate Projectile Type Device at Kula Home

Maui Police have launched an investigation into a report of an unknown device at a Hapapa Road home in Kula.

Police located the device when responding to the initial report at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2011; but when they returned at noon on Sunday with personnel from the Army Explosive Ordinance Detail (E.O.D.)the device was missing.

Police say the device, although not positively identified as live ordinance, appeared to be a military-type projectile.

When authorities arrived on scene Saturday, the area was secured and residents were advised of the situation. The Army Explosive Ordinance Detail (E.O.D) was contacted and notified as a precaution.

During the follow-up visit, authorities conducted a search of the immediate area, which proved to be futile.

The Maui Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division was notified and an ongoing investigation is being conducted. Anyone with information is asked to call the MPD Criminal Investigation Division at (808)244-6425 or Crime Stoppers at (808)242-6966.
