Maui Motorcyclist Killed in Waiko Crash

A Maui man suffered fatal injuries in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on East Waiko Road this morning (September 20, 2011).

Authorities have identified the man as Sean West, 42 of Makawao.

The accident was reported at 5:02 a.m. near the Waiale Road and East Waiko Road intersection.

A preliminary investigation indicates that West lost control of the 2011 Harley Davidson he was operating.  Authorities say he left the roadway, and came to rest on a pile of boulders well away from the road.

The man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The accident was the 4th motorcycle fatality this year in Maui County, and the 13th traffic fatality on Maui County roads.

Authorities are investigating speed and alcohol as possible factors in the crash.
