Mayor Arakawa Urges Water Conservation

Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa is urging residents to conserve water on behalf of the Department of Water Supply.

He began running a series of public service announcements yesterday saying that although Maui has had a wet summer, the rainfall will take about six months to reach aquifers.

Mayor Arakawa said the county continues to deal with growing water demand issues, and is calling on residents to take small steps including taking shorter showers, fixing leaky irrigation, and watering plants in the early morning or late afternoon.

“If everyone saves a little, together we can save a lot,” his message states.
