Roundup: Kamehameha-Maui Wins Again

Baldwin was focused on ending a record-breaking run by Kamehameha-Maui.  Sienna Davis would have none of that.  The junior outside hitter registered 14 kills, 15 digs and four blocks in leading the Warriors to a 25-13, 27-25, 25-21 volleyball road victory before a noisy crowd of about 1,000 at the Baldwin Gym.

The eighth-ranked Warriors improved their league record to 11-0 and extended their winning streak against MIL competition to 52 matches.  The Bears fell to 8-3, with each of the setbacks coming against Kamehameha.

On the college front:  The eighth-ranked Rainbow Wahine volleyball team will get some national exposure tonight when its road match against New Mexico State is televised on ESPN.  The first serve is set for 4 p.m., Hawaii time.

UH has dominated the WAC, but the Aggies have traditionally given the Rainbow Wahine – who are headed to the Big West Conference next season — their strongest challenges.

Tonight’s showdown should be no different, with New Mexico State bidding to break its home attendance mark of 7,115 set six years ago against – naturally – the Rainbow Wahine.

Both teams enter the match with 5-0 league marks.  UH is 15-1 overall; NMS is 16-4.

Hawaii continues its road trip with a Friday match at LaTech.

The road has not been kind to the UH soccer team.  So, the Rainbow Wahine are looking forward to returning home for matches against Fresno State on Friday and San Jose State on Saturday.

UH dropped to 3-10 overall, including 0-7 on the mainland, and is 2-1 in the WAC following losses last week of 4-2 at Idaho and 3-0 at Seattle..

Senior midfielder Kaylee Kihara has appeared in all 13 games for Hawaii, nine of them in a starting role.
