By Wendy Osher
Maui Police say a four-year-old boy injured in a tractor accident on Molokai is now in stable condition.
The boy, Elijah Huff Jr. suffered injuries while riding a tractor driven by his grandfather.
The incident was reported at around 5:22 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, near a residence on Airport Loop in Hoolehua.
According to police reports, the boy had stepped off the tractor when it came to a stop.
A preliminary investigation reveals that the boy’s grandfather, Walter Mendes, reached out to grab the boy and pull him back onto the tractor; however, his foot slipped off the clutch which caused the tractor to move forward, and run over the boy.
The boy suffered possible arm and head injuries, according to Maui Police, and was air lifted to the Queens Medical Center in Honolulu for treatment.
Police have classified the case as an accident.
