The filming of the Lifetime channel movie The Blue Lagoon just wrapped up recently on Maui.
Filming began last month and ended last week Thursday, according to Ryan Piros, Maui County’s assistant communications director.
The production is a remake of the 1980 original which starred Christopher Atkins and Brooke Shields. Scenes for the movie were filmed in Makena, Paia and other Maui County locations.
More than 30 Maui residents were hired to work as crew members including electrical, set safety and stunt coordinators. During filming, actors and crew members stayed at local hotels for an estimated 450 plus room nights in South Maui.
This remake is a “Lifetime Movie of the Week” that will air later this year, starring Australian actors Brenton Thwaites and Indiana Evans. Thwaites and Evans will play Dane and Emma, a boy and a girl marooned on a tropical island where they grow up together and fall in love.
