PHOTOS: Vehicle Overturns After Striking Wailuku Bridge

A 49-year-old woman was transported to the hospital in stable condition on Tuesday afternoon (June 5, 2012) after the truck she was operating struck the concrete base of the Wailuku Bridge, officials said.

The Dodge Dakota truck flipped over on its roof, and the female driver crawled out on her own with minor facial wounds and back pain, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

Responding to the scene were medics, Maui Police, and a crew from the Maui Fire Department’s Engine 1 in Wailuku.

A portion of Waiale Road below the Wailuku Bridge was closed for about a half hour during the 4 p.m. hour while fire crews cleaned debris and fuel that had leaked onto the roadway.
