Juror Questionnaires Sent to 55,000 Maui Residents
By Wendy Osher
An estimated 55,000 residents on Maui will be receiving juror questionnaires from the Hawai’i State Judiciary beginning this week.
The questionnaires are sent out each year during the first week in August to individuals who have a Hawai’i driver’s license and are registered to vote in the state.
A total of 235,000 juror questionnaires are being sent out this year, and will be used to help select individuals who may be eligible to serve as jurors in 2013.
This year, a new Certification of Disability for Disqualification from Jury Service form will be included in the mailer. The form should be filled out by those claiming a permanent disability that prohibits them from jury service.
Questionnaire recipients have 10 days to complete and return the document to the Jury Pool Office, and may be penalized for non-compliance.
To be eligible for jury duty, you must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of the US, a resident of Hawai’i, and able to read and understand English.
