Lauhala Weaving and Gardening Classes at Bailey House

The Maui Historical Society offers two cultural learning opportunities in the coming months.
The first is a Lauhala Weaving Class led by instructor Pohaku Kaho’ohanohano.
The six week session meets on Wednesdays at the Baily House Museum in Wailuku.
Students will learn how to weave their own lauhala project under the direction of Kaho’ohanohano, who has been weaving for 19 years.
Classes run from 6 to 8 p.m. on September 19 and 20; and October 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2012.
The cost is $65 for non-members, or $60 for members of the Maui Historical Society. Sign-up is in progress and seating is limited. Payment is due by August 31, 2012.
The other class being offered by the Maui Historical Society is a Gardening Class, led by master gardener Anne Gachuhi.
The classes will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. one day each month from September through December. Classes include the following: Thursday, September 27- Organic Vegetable Production; Thursday October- 25 Pruning the Easy Way; Thursday November 29- Major Insect Pests of Vegetables; and Thursday December 20- Major Diseases of Vegetables.
Cost for the gardening sessions is $15 per class or $10 per class for Maui Historical Society members.
