A 45-year-old Kihei man was transported in serious but stable condition to the hospital after colliding with a deer while operating an ATV in Wailea yesterday morning.
Medics responded to a report of an ATV roll over at 10:21 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012 in the area of 5400 Makena Alanui Road.
Upon arrival, Medic 3 from Kihei found the man with suspected chest, left arm, and left leg injuries under the care of his friends who had brought him to the roadway to meet up with responding ambulance personnel, said Maui County Paramedic Association spokesperson Ryan Joslin.
The patient, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was operating his ATV when he collided with a large deer that caused him to roll over with the ATV landing on top of him, Joslin said.
The man was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center to an awaiting trauma team while receiving Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support care by an attending paramedic.
Paramedics were assisted by fire crews from Engine 14 out of Wailea, and police units.
