Taxpayers have until Monday, April 22 to file their Hawaii state taxes this year.

The Hawaii state tax return filing deadline is April 20, 2013, however, since April 20 falls on a Saturday this year, taxpayers have until Monday, April 22, to file their tax, according to a reminder issued by the Hawaii Department of Taxation today.

If, however, taxpayers choose to file a paper tax return and have the refund check mailed to them, the tax return and refund process will reportedly take approximately eight weeks. The fastest way to file a Hawaii tax return and receive a refund is through the state’s e-filing system, which is free, by visiting www.hawaii.gov/tax.

As of last week, the department reportedly processed more than 400,000 tax returns with more than 300,000 taxpayers had filed electronically and approximately 100,000 by paper. So far, the department said it had processed more than 300,000 refunds this season, or about $216 million dollars.
