Honokōhau Valley Brush Fire Burns 50-Acres

Fire crews from Nāpili and Lahaina were dispatched to Honokōhau Valley on Wednesday afternoon for reports of a brush fire.

Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said when crews arrived on scene, they found about 20-acres of brush on fire on the makai side of the Honoapiʻilani Highway in an old pineapple field.

The incident was reported shortly after noon and authorities say the fire was contained by around 3 p.m.

Additional units from Wailuku and Kahului assisted along with two helicopters and a tanker from the Department of Public Works, official said.

A total of about 50 acres of brush was burned in the incident, according to FS Chief Mainaga.

No injuries or damages were reported, and officials say the cause of the fire was undetermined.
