There is a wind advisory has been extended for the summit of Haleakalā until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2013, the National Weather Service announced.

NWS forecasters say winds are expected to be blowing from the east at around 35 mph, with localized gusts of over 50 mph.

The NWS says the high winds are the result of high pressure building to the northeast, that will keep winds strong through this afternoon.

Winds can make driving difficult for high profile vehicles and result in airborne debris.
