Claimants Sought in Wailuku Main Street Assoc. Dissolution

A court-appointed receiver is seeking to repay creditors following a ruling to dissolve the troubled Wailuku Main Street Association.

Receiver William McKeon is asking anyone with a claim against the non-profit Wailuku Main Street Association/Tri-Isle Main Street Resource Center to submit it by Nov. 15 in order to collect a portion of the remaining money, after Circuit Court Judge Joseph Cardoza entered the written order and decree to dissolve on Oct. 15.

So far, three creditors have made claims: the Association’s former landlord Starr Properties, who is seeking back rent; the Association’s former attorney Kevin Jenkins for unpaid legal services; and the County of Maui. The exact amounts were not currently known, according to McKeon.

McKeon said the money will come from a “very modest” amount of cash on hand in the Association’s bank account, as well as some furniture and electronic items that have limited value. It would not be enough to pay all the known claims in full, he said.

The Association, formed with the purpose of encouraging the revitalization of Wailuku, had been given a harsh rebuke by state Deputy Attorney General Huge Jones over the under-reporting of what it was doing with public money.

It led Mayor Alan Arakawa in April 2012 to review how certain county-funded programs were going to “make the reporting process more definitive.” The county later sued the Association.

Claimants should submit their name, address and contact details, the claim and its amount, and all supporting documents and evidence to:
