Three Nights of Halloween Flicks

This year, as part of “I Know What You Did Last Rocktober” event, Maui Onstage is offering three very different movies three nights in a row.

On Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Historic Iao Theater in Wailuku take in a free screening of “Ghostbusters,” starring Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis and Annie Potts.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the plot centers on three odd-ball scientists who have been kicked out of their cushy positions at a university in New York City where they studied the occult.

They decide to set up shop in an old firehouse and become the Ghostbusters, offering services aimed at trapping and removing ghosts from haunted houses for money.

When a downtown skyscraper becomes the focal point of spirit activity linked to the ancient god Gozer, however, the problem may be more than the team can handle.

The show starts at 7 p.m. and there is $5 all you can eat popcorn and free candy for children in costume.

Donations are welcome and there will also be a special appearance by the Kihei Charter School dancers.

On Halloween, Thursday, Oct. 31, check out Fright Night at the Iao Theater.

This ghostly double feature starts with a free screening of the SyFy channel’s paranormal investigation on “Haunted Collector: the Ghosts of Maui.” The film will be followed by Iao ghost stories.

Afterward, enjoy “The Shining” starring Jack Nicholson, Shelly Duvall, and Scatman Crothers.

Jack Torrance gets a job as the custodian of the Overlook Hotel, in the mountains of Colorado. The place is closed down during winter, Torrance and his family will be the only occupants of the hotel for a long while. When the snow storms block the Torrance family in the hotel, Jack’s son Danny, who has some clairvoyance and telepathy powers, discovers that the hotel is haunted and that the spirits are slowly driving Jack crazy. When Jack meets the ghost of Mr. Grady, the former custodian of the hotel who murdered his wife and his two daughters, things take a sinister turn for the worse.

The free show starts at 7 p.m. and donations are welcome.

If you’re into popcorn, it’s all you can eat for $5.

Finally, on Friday Nov. 1 you can do the Time Warp again.

It’s the return of Maui’s “Thriller” zombie dancers and the annual Historic Iao Theater’s “Rocky Horror Picture Show” party.

The classic audience participation film opens with straight-laced couple Brad and Janet.

After Janet accepts Brad’s marriage proposal, they soon drive away, only to get lost in the rain.

The pair stumble upon the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a transvestite who is holding the annual convention of visitors from the planet Transsexual.

Frank-N-Furter unveils his creation, a young man named Rocky Horror, who fears the doctor and rejects his sexual advances. When Frank-N-Furter announces that he is returning to the galaxy Transylvania, Riff Raff the butler and Magenta the maid declare that they have plans of their own.

The show starts at 8 p.m. and complete Rocky Horror party packs (toast, squirt guns, party hats, gloves, noisemakers, etc) are available at the theater for $12.
