New Italian Eateries Open as Food Channel Seeks Restaurateurs
By Vanessa Wolf
The local restaurant scene is always changing.
The latest developments bring some new establishments, menu changes and an opportunity for restaurant owners looking to sell.
Blue Lagoon on Front Street has been sold to SJS Island Group Inc. Starting January 1, 2014 it will be known as the Makani Kai Island Grill and Bar.
Meanwhile, the former Water Front restaurant location in Ma’alea is back in business as Saltimbocca.
If you’re on the south side, Matteo’s Osteria, a new Italian restaurant, wine bar, and breakfast café is in a BYOB soft opening in the Wailea Town Centre.
Chef Matteo Mistura, formerly of Matteo’s Pizzeria in Waila is at the helm and the restaurant plans to offer over 70 wines by the glass.
The grand opening will take place in January.
In Kihei, Just Wing It at the Piilani Safeway Shopping Center has taken on a partner and will be adding the “Sumo Dog,” a hotdog served in a homemade sweet bread roll with lilikoi, mango, Maui onion mustard, guava jam or garlic sauces pumped in.
Last but not least, restaurant owners looking to sell take note that a national realty TV show from the Food Channel is coming to Maui in January in order to film the tale of a couple selling everything to move to here and open a restaurant. The TV show is looking for restaurant sellers that would like exposure as the couple endeavors to find their dream location. Interested parties are asked to contact Michael Capuano at 808-280-0394.
