Comedian That’s Not Dave Chapelle to Play Maui
By Maui Now Staff
There is more than one comedian in the world, you know.
No, really.
There is.
And Jo Koy is (probably) not feeling the love, people.
While you animals were out there rioting and buying out every ticket to not one, not two, not three, but four Dave Chapelle shows, we’re guessing Koy was busy developing a complex.
Sure, he probably doesn’t do impressions of Rick James and Prince, but the MACC reports that his “infectious, explosive energy onstage, insightful jokes and family-inspired humor cross all boundaries.”
Variety named Jo Koy one of the “10 Comics to Watch,” so how do you like him now?
He first gained national attention with a performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2005. A few years later, he went on to broadcast his first Comedy Central special “Don’t Make Him Angry,” in 2009 and his second, “Lights Out,” in 2012.
Koy has appeared on various VH1 I Love series, as well as The Joy Behar Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Last Call with Carson Daly, and Jamie Foxx: Laughapalooza.
It’s also reported that “he is a regular guest on Chelsea Lately and a headlining comedian at the world-famous Improv club, tours the college circuit nationwide, and performs to sell-out crowds at comedy clubs both in the US and internationally.”
Koy takes to the stage on Friday, Feb. 7, so while you’re waiting for Chapelle to return the following week, you can keep the laughs coming and spread that sugar (and moulah) around.
Tickets are $25, $35, $45 (plus applicable fees) and this one’s probably not for the tots either: expect mature themes and language.
