Police Seek Help in ID of Blackie’s Pit Stop Robbery Suspect
By Maui Now Staff
Maui police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a male suspect wanted for the robbery earlier this month at Blackie’s Pit Stop on Manaʻo Kala Street in Kīhei.
Police say the lone male offender entered the business at 10:08 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, brandished a knife at the lone female employee on duty within, and demanded that she open the cash register.
According to police, the offender threatened the employee, telling her not to call anyone, then reached over the counter and grabbed money from the register before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police say the suspect is described as 18-28 years old, standing 5’2 to 5’3, and weighing about 120 to 130 pounds.
Police say video surveillance shows the suspect arriving in a dark colored sedan, which was parked on the roadway outside of the business. The vehicle is far enough away from surveillance that it cannot be positively identified, according to police.
The offender appears to get out of the passenger side door and walks towards the business as the vehicle is moved and parked.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Jeffrey Mahoney at the Maui Police Department’s Kīhei Criminal Investigation Division or Crime Stoppers at 875-5409.
