Heavy rain near Lānaʻi City prompted a flood advisory for the island until 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014.

The National Weather Service issued the advisory saying a rain gauge in the northwest portion of the island was showing 2.76 inches of rainfall in the past hour.

Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to Kaiolohia or Shipwreck Beach and Kōʻele.

The agency advises motorists and pedestrians not to cross fast flowing or rising water in their vehicle or on foot.

The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
