A 53-year-old Maui man died after he was found floating face down in waters at Hoʻokipa Beach Park on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014.

Maui police have not released the identity of the man, pending notification of next of kin.

According to police reports, the man was found by Ocean Rescue personnel at around 11:18 a.m.

Police say Ocean Rescue crews brought the man to shore and initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The victim was then transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition, but despite life-saving efforts, he later died, police said.

The cause of death is pending autopsy results.  The case is currently classified as a miscellaneous accident.

A wind and high surf advisory were posted today for Maui and Molokaʻi due to a larger than expected north-northeast swell. Surf along north facing shores was expected to be in the 12 to 15 foot range before dropping below advisory levels this evening.
