Lānaʻi Power Restored to 1,717 After Generator Tripped Offline

Power was fully restored to all customers on Lānaʻi by 6 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014.
The outage occurred overnight, knocking out power to an estimated 1,717 customers (a majority of the island) at 3:18 a.m.
Officials with Maui Electric Company say a generator tripped offline, and an investigation into the generator malfunction remains under investigation.
Power was restored to pockets of the island around 3:45 a.m., and full restoration was met by 6 a.m.
Representatives at Maui Electric apologized for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.

Electrical service has been restored to a majority of customers in the areas of Mānele Rd., Hulupoʻe Rd., Mānele Bay Hotel, Mānele Resort, Lānaʻi Airport, Harbor, Recycling Center, WWTP, and laterals as of 4:29 a.m.

Maui Electric Company has confirmed that a majority of the island of Lānaʻi is experiencing a power outage. Maui Electric is working to identify the cause and restore electrical service as quickly and safely as possible.
