*A High Surf Advisory has been posted for the north facing shores of Molokaʻi and Maui until 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014. Beaches in the advisory area will experience rip currents and localized beach erosion. Surf is expected to be in the 10 to 15 foot range along affected shorelines.

*The Flash Flood Watch has been extended by the National Weather Service until 6 a.m. Thursday December 25, 2014. A disturbance near the islands through early tomorrow morning could bring unstable conditions to Maui County. The potential for heavy flooding rainfall and thunderstorms remains elevated through that time. If this occurs in a short period of time flash flooding may occur. Excessive runoff may produce rock and mudslides in steep terrain and fast flowing water may create life threatening situations.

According to the National Weather Service, a “Flash Flood Watch” means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flood Watches are issued to inform the public, cooperating agencies, and other interests that the current and/or developing weather pattern is such that there is a potential for rapid flooding (also known as flash flooding), more widespread areal flooding, or river flooding.  The occurrence of flooding is neither certain nor imminent.  Persons in the watch area are advised to check flood action plans, keep informed, and be ready to take necessary actions if a warning is issued or flooding is observed.

*A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for most Maui County waters through 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. Winds of 25 to 30 knots are expected and rough seas from 9 to 17 feet.
