Saltchuk Hawaiʻi Companies Awards $20K to Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai‘i, a local children’s agency, recently received a $20,000 grant from Saltchuk Hawai‘i Companies. The funds will support the agency in its mission to mentor children ages 6 to 18 in making positive life choices.

“We are so thankful for Kimo Haynes at Hawai‘i Petroleum, Glenn Hong at Young Brothers, and Pat Rosa at Aloha Air Cargo for choosing to support our agency and for their generosity to our keiki,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai‘I President/CEO Dennis Brown.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai‘i aims to support local kids facing adversity through education and positive one-on-one mentorship, steering them away from destructive activities like drugs, alcohol, and gangs, and encouraging them to dream big. The agency serves over 700 children across the state, and largely runs on volunteer support to mentor youth in need of positive role models. It has a proven track record of positively affecting social and emotional behaviors, high school graduation rates, college readiness, and avoidance of juvenile delinquency.
