Women Helping Women to Present ‘The Vagina Monologues’
By Maui Now Staff
Women Helping Women will present its annual “VDay Maui” production of “The Vagina Monologues” on Feb. 8, at the Historic ‘Īao Theater in Wailuku. This will be Maui’s sixth production, and will serve as a fundraiser for Women Helping Women.
“The Vagina Monologues,” written by playwright Eve Ensler, offers the wildly divergent experiences of women from all walks of life. Translated into 48 different languages, the play has been performed worldwide since 1996.
Theater veteran Sharon Ogawa will direct the cast, which is composed of 23 Maui women.
Although most of the speeches have been preserved from the earliest days of the production, the 2015 script includes a newer monologue representing transgender women.
“The Vagina Monologues” will be presented at 2:30 and 7 p.m.
Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased online at WomenHelpingWomen.com, or by calling Maui Onstage at 244-8680.
The theater is located at 68 North Market St. in Wailuku.
