No Tsunami Threat to Hawaiʻi After 6.7 Chile Quake

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi following a 6.7 (preliminary magnitude 6.9) quake reported at 8:57 a.m. HST on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015 in the Northern Chile region, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The agency says that “based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi.”

According to the USGS, the quake was located: 67 miles ESE of San Pedro de Atacama, Chile; 117 miles W of Humahuaca, Argentina; 121 miles ESE of Calama, Chile; 127 miles SW of La Quiaca, Argentina; and 465 miles S of La Paz, Bolivia.
