By Maui Now Staff
The historic Hāna Ranch in East Maui recently opened a farm stand, featuring locally-grown seasonal organic fruits and vegetables.
Hāna Ranch Farm Stand is located half a mile south of Hāna on the Hāna Highway, and is now open Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
“We’re thrilled to introduce visitors and locals in Hāna to our produce, grown right here at Hāna Ranch,” said Morgan Maki, operations manager of Hāna Ranch. “The new Hāna Ranch Farm Stand will offer travelers an easy way to experience the fresh local eats Hāna has to offer.”
Depending on the season, offerings could include bananas, lettuce, spring onions, bok choy, lemons, sweet potatoes, parsley and taro.
All of the produce offered at the farm stand is grown at the Hāna Ranch farm, which includes 12 acres of farm land maintained by employees who live and work in Hāna.
The operation recently received certification from the California Certified Organic Farmers organization. All produce at the ranch is grown according to standards set by the USDA National Organic Program, without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or genetically modified seeds.
The ranch itself is has been operating on Maui for more than 71 years and includes 3,600 acres. The working cattle ranch was founded in 1944, and is currently managed by Bio-logical Capital, LLC.
