Ho’olaule’a Tonight Honoring Iwi Kupuna at Maui Lani

An educational event on the status of native burials, particularly within the Maui Lani development, will take place this evening at Owa—the Maui Lani Shopping Center area. The Ua Noho Au Kupa Hoʻolauleʻa, honoring iwi kupuna (ancestors), is hosted by the group Hui Pono Ike Kanawai from 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday, April 24, 2015.
Activities include presentations on the Kuʻe Petition signing, genealogy, and laws on burial rights. There will also be presentations from Aha Moku O Wailuku and the Waiheʻe Limu Restoration program.
Entertainment will be provided by Koa Hewahewa, Nā Wai ʻEha (which features Kalmalai, Kamalei and Kamaehu Kawaʻa), and Leokani.
The hoʻolauleʻa is an alcohol and drug free event and is open to the community.
