Papa Intersection at Hina Converted into an All-Way Stop
By Maui Now Staff
The intersection of Hina Avenue and Papa Avenue will be converted to an all-way stop with stop signs, effective on Friday, July 17, county officials announced today.
Currently, the intersection is a two-way stop with motorists on Papa Avenue required to stop.
Once the stop signs are installed on Hina Avenue, all motorists will be required to stop before proceeding through the intersection.
Crews from the County of Maui Department of Public Works will install “stop ahead” signs on Hina Avenue to help warn motorists of the new traffic pattern.
Staff will also be on hand to control traffic through the intersection while work is being performed.
County officials say the conversion into an all-way stop is anticipated to be completed on Friday, prior to the start of the 2015-1016 school year when the intersection is used the most.
If vehicles approach the intersection at the same time, right of way is to the vehicle on the right. Drivers are also reminded that they must come to a full and complete stop at intersections where there are all-way stops.
