HC&S Launches Community Initiative Grant Program 2015
Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company has launched the 2015 HC&S Community Initiative to support “Maui’s Keiki and Families” as follow-up to the community grant program initiated last year.
Grant applications and information are available on the HC&S website. The application deadline is July 31, 2015.
“We are proud to bring back the HC&S Community Initiative in 2015,” said Rick Volner, HC&S general manager. “This year, we are focusing on projects, programs, and organizations that enrich the lives of Maui’s keiki and their families—the foundation for Maui’s future.”
Volner continued, “Due to the overwhelming community response we received last year, and the impact of the grants made, we felt it was important for HC&S to continue this program. Last year, HC&S supported 16 local projects affecting a broad cross-section of our community. We will again use an advisory committee of Maui residents to help us find unique opportunities to continue to build a stronger Maui, as HC&S has done for generations of Mauians.”
The Community Initiative Committee will convene in August and grant decisions will be announced in September.
Applicants are not required to have nonprofit status but all must have been in operation at least three years or should have experience in their field for at least three years.
Last year, the HC&S Community Initiative awarded $100,000 in grants on Maui, in addition to another $345,000 donated to Maui nonprofits by Alexander & Baldwin’s Kokua Giving program.
