Firefighters launched a search for a pair of hikers reported missing in the “Commando Trail” area of Haʻikū in East Maui on Friday night, Aug. 14, 2015.
The incident was reported at 7:05 p.m. by a friend who called emergency responders to report the hikers overdue. Authorities say the men — a 28-year-old and a 43-year-old — failed to pick up a friend from work as planned.
Fire officials say their car was found still parked at the “Commando” trailhead in Haʻikū on Friday evening.
As of 10 p.m., firefighters from Pāʻia and a rescue crew from Kahului continued the search.
