Maui police have launched a terroristic threatening investigation after dispatchers received a telephone threat on Tuesday morning involving a plane at Kahului Airport, Aug. 25, 2015.

Maui Police Lieutenant William Juan said that following the call, the plane, passengers, and luggage were screened and were deemed safe.

A spokesperson with Alaska Airlines tells Maui Now that they were advised by the airport of a security threat.   “We are working with Maui airport police, TSA and the FBI. In the meantime, additional security measures are being taken to ensure the safety of our departing flights today,” airline representatives told Maui Now.

The flight is scheduled to depart with delay, according to Maui police.

Officers with the Maui Police Department are investigating the motive for the call, according to department reports.
