Maui Flood Advisory Extended Until 6 p.m.

A Flood Advisory for Maui has been extended to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say radar at 2:59 p.m. showed areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms with rain falling at rates of more than two inches per hour.

The NWS says the heaviest rains have shifted to the Upcountry Maui and the Windward West Maui areas.

Showers have diminished along East Maui, however stream levels may still be high.

Other locations in the advisory include: Waiheʻe, Waiehu, Paʻuwela, Nāpili, Kapalua, Kahakuloa, Hoʻokipa Beach Park, Honolua, Honokōhau and Haʻikū.

A special weather statement has been issued for the Big Island of Hawaiʻi where isolated thunderstorms have been producing bursts of lightning.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say additional thunderstorms will continue to flare up along slopes of the island, mainly in the Honokaʻa and Waimea areas through the afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for Maui until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015.

Forecasters with the NWS say radar at 12:54 p.m. showed heavy rain falling at rates of 2 inches per hour along windward east Maui near Huelo, about 15 miles east of Kahului.

Other locations in the advisory include: Paʻuwela, Pāʻia, Makawao, Keʻanae, Hoʻokipa Beach Park, Hāliʻimaile and Haʻiku.

The public is reminded not to cross fast flowing or rising water in their vehicle or on foot.
