Chinese Moon Festival Scheduled for Sunday

The Maui Historical Society is hosting this year’s Mid-Autumn Chinese Moon Festival Celebration at the museum on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku.

The festival will include cultural presentations, activities, demonstrations, entertainment, the “Maui Chinese Families in the Early 1900s”photo exhibit, a behind-the-scenes look a the Kung Fu moves associated with the Lion Dance by the Maui Chinese Martial Arts Academy and Sifu Steve Catugal.

Chinese cooking demonstration with Executive Chef Tom Muromoto and Sous Chef Chris Napoleon of Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel, Chinese calligraphy, ribbon dance, tea ceremony, Feng Shui, acupuncture, poetry and music and a special presentation by the honorable Dr. Busaba Yip of Wo Hing Museum.

The event will also include food booths Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel, Royal Kitchen, Ululani’s Shave Ice & Manapua; the Maui Chinese Cultural Society will be selling traditional Chinese mooncakes.

The event is presented in partnership with the Maui Chinese Cultural Society and Smithsonian Museum Day Live.
